A little bit about me 🙂
My name is Sarala dasi, I am married with 2 children, although they are not so little anymore (sad and happy at the same time about that!) my parents live with us on the same property in Queensland Australia. We have a 1 acre block and have been gradually working on the gardens for the last 10 years – it has been a slow process and there is still so much more to do. Most of what I share on the blog will be either gardening or food related.
I grew up in a vegetarian family, we are Vaishnava Hindus so cooking without meat is natural for me. I love cooking, actually that is too strong a word… I like cooking?, most of the time anyway. Whatever the case I seem to do a lot of it! The recipes we cook every day and also our celebrations, which as a Vaishnava, are often and usually involve preparing and offering food. I have also been inspired by the growing vegetarian and vegan movement, the appeal of a plant-based diet is becoming more widespread and I think that is amazing. I have so many recipes to try in my Pinterest recipe section, it’s out of control! So when I find recipes that I try and love from elsewhere I will be posting those here too.
A big reason I wanted to start this blog was to share some of the ways we live our lives as Vaishnava Hindus – a devotee of God or Krishna we most often call Him. This is the part of my life that is most important and private to me, so sharing this in some small way is both natural and scary at the same time. My hope is to offer some understanding of why and how we live our lives this way. For those interested in developing your relationship with God I hope that you find some small inspiration here, some of the practices might seem strange so bear with me.
So that’s it – just lots of food talk, family recipes, a bit of gardening appreciation, and life moments that touch my heart. And I’m a mum, so I’m sure there will be some proud mum stuff here and there, sometimes I just can’t help it!
