Brown rice is one of my favorite things, we have it pretty often too. My kids love it in bakes or burgers. But I think just by itself with some sesame seeds and soy sauce is so good! A new discovery for me was brown jasmine rice, it really makes a difference if you like soft almost sticky rice. We always crack our rice first, this makes the best fluffy brown rice! My mum taught me that when I was younger and I still do it every time. I guess toasting would be a better word for it, but I’ve always said crack! It opens up the grains and makes them so much softer and fluffier, with a lovely toasty flavour.
To make the BEST FLUFFY brown rice is so easy, just pour your dry rice into the cooking pot and stir over medium heat for about 8 minutes. You will notice the grains cracking open – some will even look like tiny popcorns. If you don’t mind a real toasted flavor you can stir less, some of the rice will char – I don’t mind that but it’s not for everyone, I used to live in the Philippines and there is a local coffee that is made from blackened rice – so good! When most of the rice is toasty and cracking pour in water -about double the volume of rice and simmer on low heat for about 25 mins. Fluff and serve!
